Improving Your Mood Through Food

Hey lovelies. I’ve been seeing this a lot in my practice lately as well as having the conversations with some of my girls so in light of that, I wanted to briefly jump on and do a short blog.

Living well and living that healthy life isn’t limited to just engaging in exciting activities or making tons of cash in life (although admittedly that’s nice too!). It’s a deeper connection to your body, mind, and spirit. All three of these must be nurtured and kept in balance for you to thrive in today’s fast paced world.

The foods you consume have a lot to do with your moods. In fact, foods high in dairy, processed sugars and boxed foods (hello Kraft dinner!) are recipes for disaster if you’re trying to think positively. Pay close attention to how you feel 1/2 hour to 1 hour and upwards of 4 hours after you eat. Are you bloated? Tired? Wired for sound?

Begging for a nap? Look closely at what you ate and be a food mood detective. This has served me well in the last few months.

I have decided to opt out on dairy (always knew I was sensitive to that one) and breads…not for the gluten issue but after reading what they do to wheat after they harvest it by soaking it in ROUND UP weed kill, I’ll pass on wheat thanks so much. You’ll change your mind too once you read this article called The Real Reason Wheat is Toxic.

So the take away is being mindful of what you put into your body.  Choose foods that will make you glow from the inside out!

In addition to eating well, engaging in some sort of physical activity is beneficial to your overall health. Getting outside and taking in the sun will boost your serotonin, also known as, the happy chemical in your brain. When you take care of your body, you’ll see positive changes in how you view yourself. You’ll become stronger both mentally and physically.

It’s the concept of how we can literally change our moods with the foods we consume. True is the word of garbage in equals garbage out. Read what Body Health Coach is all about right here. It’s all about balance, moderation and learning to use our skills for healthy living to the max.

Here’s another point to our moods that doesn’t involve food but is worth mentioning. The company we keep.  Yep, this is detrimental to how we function as human beings.  Do you have an army of like minded people around you?  I suggest that if you don’t, now is the time to cut the cord and move on.  A little bit of harshness there, but if you are not being supported and being lifted up, why are you hanging around?

Relationships are meant to be a tribe of close friends and business relations that truly care about you.  Bar none.  

Choosing companions who honor your strengths and acknowledge how great you are creates a healthy space. The danger in attempting to improve your self-esteem while surrounding yourself with negative people is that their mentality will eventually rub off on you.

You’ll begin to live in that space of negative thinking without even realizing the repercussions. People who inspire you, motivate you and challenge you are friends that will support your esteem. They respect you, so they would never intentionally attempt to taint your character. After you’ve established a firm hold on how you view yourself, it will be easy to attract like minded people who think similarly.

You have to live with yourself for the rest of your life. Why not make the experience a great one! We all have so many unique talents and opportunities to give to the world. It’s only right that we see the beauty we possess within ourselves.

By making the above tips a form of habit, you’ll be well on your way to improving how you see yourself and living a purpose filled life.
