This is a topic definitely worth repeating over and over again.
We gotta set the record straight once and for all!!! DIETING has NOTHING to do with counting calories and everything to do with the KINDS of food you put into your body!………I have spent the past 20 plus years living this way and you know what? It works!
I can honestly say I have never counted a calorie, like EVER!!! And you don’t have to either.
I have prepared for fitness competitions this way, I have leaned out this way and heck, I’ve even put on muscle mass this way. What does matter is the timing of your nutrients and the AMOUNT of nutrients you are getting, not being obsessed with the scale…something else I never use.
A few years back, I used to consult for a pharmacy in my area. I also helped out on the floor with customer questions on vitamins and supplements. A customer came in looking for a calcium supplement and I proceeded to show her to a new chewable that was out on the market (It was a nice highly absorbable one that tasted like a piece of fudge too!). Before I could give the “specs” on the product, she blurted out “How many calories in each chewable?”. I’ll be honest. She stunned me there.
I was actually thinking to myself “you’ve got to be kidding, did she just ask how many calories in this?!”. I took a deep breath and said “5.There are 5 calories per each chewable calcium”. She literally looked at me like a was growing a third head and replied “That’s way too much!”. To be quite honest, it took all I had not to laugh.
Not at the woman asking the question but at the implication that 5 calories a day was going to affect her. So obviously, chewing gum wasn’t an option either…teehee.
Don’t just take my word for it, see here why you never need to count a calorie.
What I typically teach clients is that you need to focus on making sure you go for protein first, at every meal and snack and follow that with a healthy serving of good carbohydrates and equally good essential fatty acids. Now this ratio is pretty much the standard for adopting a healthy lifestyle but this needs to gets tweaked when you have specific goals in mind such as fitting into that wedding dress, looking dynamite in your new bikini or just trying to look and feel your absolute best.
Aside from all of this, I may jump on the scale at the gym (cuz I refuse to leave my expensive Tanita scale out at home so the kids don’t destroy it) once a month, if that. And you know what? It NEVER EVER changes. I may fluctuate a couple pounds but the numbers pretty much stay the same. Your clothes are going to tell you long before the scale will. I still have a pair of pants from my very early 20’s. I can gage my weight from putting these on every now and again. But the key is to not become dependent on any method you are using. Put the darn bathroom scale away and take out the fat pants periodically to check in. Like the spice of life, balance is key to absolutely everything.
Get rid of the things in your life that are “weighing you down.” No pun intended! LOL.
I just had to get this off my chest. This is another one of those main reasons why Body Health Coach has come into existence. To tell you that most of the information out there is DEAD WRONG and you need someone to separate the good information from the bad stuff out there.
I hope I have laid this issue to rest. I completely know that there are struggles but I will weather the storm with you and you WILL make it out on top. I welcome your questions and your feedback. You are so important to this part of my journey too and I am always here to help.
